Since 2012, the scientific core of Map of Life has been developed and advanced by the Center for Biodiversity and Global Change at Yale University.

The Map of Life Rapid Assessments team took second place in the five-year XPRIZE Rainforest competition, demonstrating the enormous potential for noninvasive, scalable biodiversity monitoring to revolutionize conservation efforts.
